A Weekend Retreat in Scandic Berlin Kurfürstendamm

Sadly, once you become a resident in a new city, you automatically stop being a tourist there. And even though some may think that it’s an inevitable fact, I refuse to believe it. That’s why, on one stormy weekend in August, I packed my suitcase and checked into Scandic Berlin Kurfürstendamm – a hotel so beautifully inspired by Swedish laconism and Nordic freshness that I couldn’t believe I was still in Berlin. And yet I was.

The Location

Located in Charlottenburg, one of the fanciest areas in the city, Scandic Kurfürstendamm is just a minute away from the Berlin Zoo, the Kaiser-Wilhelm Memorial Church, and the famous KaDeWe (that’s the largest department store in Europe – take notes, shopping addicts). The beautiful Kurfürstendamm is probably the liveliest boulevard in Berlin, full of high-fashion shops, restaurants, and concept stores. And tourists, of course.

The Room

Out of all the 217 rooms available, I was staying in a so-called Blogger Room that was supposed to help me re-charge my energy and re-discover my focus, which is quite easy to lose in Berlin sometimes, the real city that never sleeps. My room was not too big but not too small – perfect, in fact, for a weekend retreat. It had a comfortable sofa with a coffee table and magazines and a convenient blogging desk next to a huge window looking out on a lovely and quiet Augsburger Straße. I must admit, though, that I preferred staying in a wonderfully comfortable king-size bed instead, enjoying the beauty of high-speed Internet and eating up the complimentary fruits and chocolates that I received upon my arrival.

Love is in the air! Love is in the air!

The room had everything you’d ever need and yet nothing you’d find unnecessary. Clean lines and fresh colors, the pleasant serenity and chilling atmosphere – all that represents laconic Scandic philosophy, according to which comfort should be pure and luxury – simple.

The Facilities

What I particularly like about Scandic Kurfürstendamm is that the whole hotel has a strong nature vibe. There are birch trees and wood everywhere and, when you dine at the hotel restaurant, you even get to see an elk. It’s like you’re having a picnic somewhere in the middle of a forest – with the only difference that you’re sitting on comfy chairs instead. Your cup of morning coffee, as the matter of fact, can be as comfortably enjoyed outdoors too – thankfully, there’s a small stylish garden just outside the restaurant. I went there to read over breakfast and it became my pleasant ‘morning activity’.
Speaking of activities, by the way, Scandic Hotels also offers its guests a fully equipped gym and sauna, which, after two long days of sightseeing in Charlottenburg, my restless soul enjoyed more than ever.

The Verdict

I genuinely loved staying at this hotel. The service was amazing and the level of relaxation that I got there made me feel like I had a real spa retreat. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who’s looking to find pure, simple comfort in the midst of a busy city life of Berlin

As a #ScandicBlogger, I spent a weekend in Scandic Berlin Kurfürstendamm upon an invitation. All opinions are, however, my own.
